On and off the track

Vitaly Petrov made history as the first Russian to race in F1, debuting with Renault in 2010, and enjoyed his finest moment with third place at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix before ending his F1 run at Caterham in 2012. He then raced in the DTM for Mercedes in 2014 and built a solid endurance career with SMP Racing, including third in the LMP1 class at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans. He also served on the FIA Drivers' Commission and was appointed as a steward at an F1 race. He remains involved in Russian motorsport as an official and still takes the occasional sports car drive.

Vitaly Petrov's milestones

Between the 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix, held at Bahrain International Circuit, and the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, Vitaly Petrov (Russian) built the whole career. The best result was a P3 finish at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix. It added up to 58 starts spread over 22 circuits in 20 countries, at 1.1 points per start. The most worn colours were those of Renault, for 38 races.

The points peak came in 2011, with 37. From the debut in 2010 to the last season in 2012, every year in the table above has its own page; the titles of the period sit with the Formula 1 world champions.
