Where this math comes from
Linking letters to numbers is attributed to the school of Pythagoras (6th century BC), which saw numbers as the essence of the cosmos, but modern name and birth numerology was systematized in the early 20th century by L. Dow Balliett and her successors. The mechanics are simple and we show all of it: each letter is worth 1 to 9 on the Pythagorean table (A=1, B=2... I=9, then J=1 again), accents are stripped first (E with an accent becomes E), and sums are reduced digit by digit until one digit remains, except 11, 22 and 33, which tradition calls master numbers and keeps intact. The Destiny Number adds the 8 digits of your birth date; the Expression Number adds the letters of your full name.
Transparency: this is cultural tradition, not science. There is no evidence these numbers describe personality or predict anything; what we guarantee is the traditional calculation done right, with every step shown on screen. Privacy: everything runs on this page, your name and date never leave your browser.
