The year in numbers

The season packed 16 races across 12 countries, with 11 different winners over 1982: Alain Prost (2), Niki Lauda (2), Didier Pironi (2), John Watson (2), René Arnoux (2), Riccardo Patrese (1), Nelson Piquet (1), Patrick Tambay (1), Elio de Angelis (1), Keke Rosberg (1), Michele Alboreto (1). Alain Prost won more than anyone, 2 of the 16 races. The title went to Keke Rosberg (Finland), driving for Williams, the first of the driver's career. On the raw sums of the table, Keke Rosberg closed the year on 44 points, 5 more than John Watson. A note for anyone checking official records: until 1990 the rules dropped each driver's worst results, so the raw sums in the table can differ from the official 1982 scores.
