On and off the track
Tim Schenken raced in F1 in the early 1970s for teams including Brabham and Surtees, peaking with third place at the 1971 Austrian Grand Prix, which placed him in the select group of Australians to stand on an F1 podium. In 1974 he co-founded the constructor Tiga with Howden Ganley, which built around 400 racing cars. Back in Australia, he became one of the most respected officials in the country's motorsport, spending more than three decades with CAMS, now Motorsport Australia. He served as Supercars race director for over 30 years before retiring from the role at the end of 2021.
