On and off the track
Colombian driver Roberto Guerrero passed through F1 with Ensign (1982) and Theodore (1983) without the machinery to show his talent, which truly flourished in the United States. In Indy racing he finished runner-up at the Indy 500 twice and won two CART races in 1987, the same year a serious testing crash at Indianapolis left him in a coma for 17 days, followed by a remarkable recovery. In 1992 he took the Indy 500 pole with a record of over 232 mph, only to spin on the parade lap. A naturalized American citizen, he lives in San Juan Capistrano, California, and in recent years has embraced off-road racing in events like the Baja 1000.
Roberto Guerrero's milestones
Between the 1982 United States Grand Prix West, held at Long Beach, and the 1983 European Grand Prix, Roberto Guerrero (Colombian) built the whole career. The on-track high point was a P8 finish at the 1982 German Grand Prix. It added up to 22 starts spread over 15 circuits in 10 countries, at 0 points per start. The most worn colours were those of Theodore, for 13 races.
The points peak came in 1982, with 0. From the debut in 1982 to the last season in 1983, every year in the table above has its own page; the titles of the period sit with the Formula 1 world champions.
