On and off the track
Raul Boesel raced in F1 in 1982 and 1983 without much success, but found it soon after. In 1987 he won the World Sportscar Championship with Jaguar, taking five victories; at Le Mans that year he finished fifth, and his best result in the French classic was second place in 1991, also with Jaguar, alongside victory in the 1988 Daytona 24 Hours. He then built a long career in Indy and CART racing through the late 1990s, with third place in the 1989 Indianapolis 500 as a highlight.
