On and off the track
Gabriel Bortoleto, born in Osasco, Brazil, in 2004, started karting at seven, shone on the European scene and since 2022 has had his career managed by A14, Fernando Alonso's management company. He made history by winning F3 in 2023 with Trident and F2 in 2024 with Invicta, both as a rookie, becoming only the seventh driver to take the GP2 or F2 title in his debut season, complete with a memorable last to first victory at Monza. He reached F1 in 2025 with Sauber: after ten rounds without scoring in a difficult car, he broke through with eighth place in Austria, made sixth in Hungary his best result and ended the year with 19 points, while tying his qualifying head to head with veteran Nico Hulkenberg at 12 apiece. The performance drew public praise from Alonso, who called him the best rookie of his generation, and from team boss Jonathan Wheatley. He stays with the team in 2026, now transformed into the Audi factory outfit, and in the brand's very first Grand Prix, in Australia, he scored Audi's first ever F1 points with ninth place.
