On and off the track
Marc Gene made his F1 debut with Minardi in 1999 and quickly wrote himself into the small Italian team's history: his sixth place at that year's European Grand Prix gave Minardi its first point since 1995. After two seasons he became a Williams test driver, even substituting for Ralf Schumacher in races, and in 2005 he joined Ferrari. Outside F1, he won the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans with Peugeot alongside David Brabham and Alex Wurz, becoming the first Spaniard to win the race. Today he is a Ferrari ambassador and TV commentator.
Marc Gené's milestones
Between the 1999 Australian Grand Prix, held at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, and the 2004 British Grand Prix, Marc Gené (Spain) built the whole career. The on-track high point was a P5 finish at the 2003 Italian Grand Prix. It added up to 36 starts spread over 17 circuits in 15 countries, at 0.1 points per start. The most worn colours were those of Minardi, for 33 races.
The points peak came in 2003, with 4. From the debut in 1999 to the last season in 2004, every year in the table above has its own page; the titles of the period sit with the Formula 1 world champions.
