On and off the track
Toranosuke Takagi raced in F1 for Tyrrell in 1998 and Arrows in 1999 but never scored points, with a seventh place in Melbourne as his best result, and communication problems with both teams cut his stint short. Back in Japan he dominated the 2000 Formula Nippon season with Nakajima Racing, winning eight of ten races in the most crushing campaign in the series' history. In America he raced in CART in 2001 and 2002 and finished fifth in the 2003 Indianapolis 500, earning Rookie of the Year honors. Today he is a team boss in Japanese motorsport, having directed the Cerumo squad in Super GT, led Toyota Rookie program teams, and developed young drivers through his karting outfit, TGR Team Takagi Planning.
