Honest limits of this rate

The US dollar to Swiss franc quote here comes from the euro reference rate published by the European Central Bank, computed once a day at about 16:00 Brussels time and always against the euro. It works as a reference for reports and conversions, not for closing an exchange deal. It is not the commercial or tourist USD/CHF rate you pay at a bank or exchange bureau: those add a spread and fees, which is why the real cost of a transfer or a trip in Swiss franc comes out different (almost always worse for the buyer). The ECB only publishes rates against the euro; the USD/CHF rate on this page is derived by this site by crossing USD and CHF through the euro (a modification stated explicitly, as the license requires). Weekends and holidays repeat the last business day rate, so the reference date can be earlier than today.
